Internships (Temporary)

The Afghanistan War Commission (AWC) is seeking two motivated individuals to serve as paid, full-time summer Research Department interns for our government commission.

Duties and responsibilities will vary depending on experience level but may include:

  • Research Assistance: Support research teams in data collection, literature reviews, and analysis related to the Afghanistan War. Assist in the organization and cataloging of research materials, documents, and reports. Assist in preparing presentations, reports, and other materials for internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Knowledge Management: Assist in data entry tasks, ensuring accuracy and completeness of information. Contribute to the organization and categorization of knowledge resources, including reports, articles, and research findings.

  • Event Coordination: Support the planning and coordination of Commission events, including meetings, workshops, and briefings. Assist in logistical arrangements and coordination with external partners.

  • Communication Support: Assist in drafting and editing internal and external communications, including emails, memos, and reports.

  • Collaboration with Teams: Collaborate with members of the research, data management, and operations teams on various projects. Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas and insights.

Qualifications: Currently enrolled in or recently completed Master's degree program in a relevant field (e.g., international relations, political science, data management, or related disciplines). Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in tasks. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Enthusiastic and adaptable to a dynamic work environment. Interest in international affairs, military studies, or related fields.

Position will be paid, full time, on-site at the AWC headquarters in Arlington, VA (Metro accessible).
